Taught by Ms. Whitney, a ceramic and textile artist, this hands-on class is perfect for young artists looking to explore the ancient art of pottery with a modern twist. Students will create individual projects using the traditional hand-building techniques of molding, pinching, coil construction and slab building. Students are encouraged to let their imaginations soar across a variety of projects such as sculptures, game boards, self portraits, vessels, trays, beads and hanging objects, all with a seasonal theme in mind. Each class offers the chance to focus on a different skill, and projects can be tailored to all experience levels. This class uses non-toxic clay and glazes, and fired stoneware projects are food, microwave and dishwasher safe. Join us for a fun-filled, creative journey through the world of clay! Repeat students are welcome.
Coding with Scratch

Taught by Mr. Nick, math tutor, B.S. in Math. Students will build their own programs, animations, and games in the block–based programming language Scratch. Developed by MIT, Scratch is a great way for kids to learn basic programming concepts. It allows coders to build their programs by dragging and dropping colorful coding blocks instead of typing out complicated syntax. We will work our way through a variety of projects, ranging from simple animations to building our own mini–games. This class is a good opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with the basics of computational thinking, as well as a chance for them to express themselves creatively. No prior experience or knowledge necessary.
Cooking

Taught by Chef Angela & Staff, urban farmer, chef and teacher. Students will learn, make, and take home a new recipe from world cuisines each week. Students work with teachers, in small groups, and individually at times to explore the world of food and flavor in a fun, no–pressure environment. Students do not handle hot or sharp equipment, but do get a chance to work with their hands every class to learn fundamental cooking and kitchen safety practices. Recipes are seasonally–minded and ingredients are sourced from local farmers markets when possible. Perfect for foodies and picky eaters alike, this class is equal parts tasting lab, food education, edible crafting, and cultural exploration.

From Pixar to Star Wars, to all the animated classics - it’s a Disney Craft collective! Drawing & Painting Lab

Children will learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting using a unique variety of materials like paint pens, oil pastels, colored pencils, acrylic paint and canvas. We look at influential artists to create projects inspired by artistic styles such as Pop Art and realism. While students develop their technical skills, they will also be encouraged to express themselves through their work.

Taught by Maestro Alejandro, an artist and art educator with a passion for helping young creators explore the colorful world of art and turn creative experiments into lasting skills. Alex combines years of artistic practice with a teaching approach that makes technical skills approachable and fun for students of all ages. Each week, students will experiment with drawing and painting in fun, low stress ways—exploring new tools, unusual techniques, and imaginative themes. While having fun, they’ll build skills in color mixing, texture, and composition, and learn hands-on methods like watercolor, wax resist, collage, and monoprinting. Students will also explore playful effects like bubble painting, salt texturing, and more traditional techniques such as pointillism using cotton swabs to create artwork that’s as surprising as it is beautiful. Every project is designed to strengthen motor skills, encourage observation, and build comfort with art materials, while keeping each class fresh, engaging, and full of creative discovery.

Taught by The Hero Workshop staff. Introduction to Dungeons and Dragons is an interactive storytelling workshop for Heroes in grades 3rd – 5th. Heroes will join a group for a weekly appointment with adventure, where one of our professional narrators (called a Dungeon Master) will present scenarios to the group, and together they decide what happens next in the story. Every participant will take on the role of a hero in a story, where we will explore concepts such as what it means to be a Hero, cooperative storytelling, encounter design, and narrative. Big moments in the story are decided by random chance with a roll of the dice. It’s fun, a great way to ignite the imagination, and we will touch on many educational aspects as part of our adventures including basic math, algebra, puzzle solving, teamwork and collaboration, and of course storytelling.
Filmmaking

Taught by Mr. Duncan & Studio Schmudio staff, filmmakers and actors. Do you dream about being in the movies? Do you love writing stories? Do you ever find yourself thinking of great ideas that should totally be a movie? Then this is the class for you! In this class students will write, shoot, edit, and star in their own short films. We will be learning about all of the different jobs and people that it takes to make our favorite films, and have so much fun creating our own! Students will be taught the filmmaking process by actual independent filmmakers and professional educators. Studio Schmudio teaches the importance of making your own work, and helping students understand that anything is possible with imagination and teamwork. Make sure you practice your autograph and have something fun to wear at our premiere on the last day! Lights, camera, action!
Football & Fun

Taught by Coach Jemeel, a former NFL player and UC Berkeley graduate, endurance trainer and CCUSD parent. Students will work on essential life skills including physical fitness (building speed, agility & endurance), athleticism (improving coordination, strategy & teamwork), sportsmanship (learning respect, fair play & gracious winning/losing), teamwork (fostering communication, trust & collaboration), and life values (discovering the importance of fitness, friends, self control and fun). In a safe and supportive environment, Coach Jemeel will guide students in Capture the Flag, Flag football and Bust the Wall games. Students can trade sports cards. We’ll also have discussions and reflections, helping students grow into more confident, compassionate and well–rounded people.
Golf

Taught by TGA Sports staff. TGA Golf combines athletics, academics, and life lessons for a fun and educational experience. Coaches lead students through station–based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of grip, putting, chipping and full–swing. Taught by Zooga Yoga staff. This class is designed to enhance motor skills, coordination, balance, and basic acrobatics skills for participants. The class also incorporates stretching, mindfulness, and individual expression. Each class begins with a warm–up, followed by practice of basic movements and skills. The class concludes with a fun game or challenge. Weekly, students will have the opportunity to develop their skills using various equipment such as balance beams, hula hoops, obstacle courses, and mindful movement exercises. Hip-Hop/Jazz Dance

Taught by Funky Divas & Dudes staff. Are you ready to rock? Learn the basic techniques of dance and how to move to the beat. We promote a healthy lifestyle through fun, physical activity that encourages self–expression through music and movement. This is a performance–based class, designed to help students gain confidence and self–esteem. We teach age–appropriate dance routines to pop music and classics from the past. We put on a rockin’ performance in costumes on the last day for family and friends to enjoy.

Taught by Ms. Kelci & Studio Schmudio improv teachers and working actors. Ms. Kelci has over 10 years of experience as an arts educator, specializing in children’s theater. Does your child love playing pretend? Are they always making up silly stories? Do they come alive in front of an audience, or would they like to, but nerves have held them back? This is the right class for them! Improvisation is the art of acting, without a script. In this class we work together to use our imaginations to explore characters, make up stories, and play pretend. This class is a safe space to learn more about acting, fearlessly. We play theater games of all sorts to work on creating characters, storylines, and to have a good laugh while doing it. This class also encourages teamwork, confidence, public speaking, and personal creativity.
Inventor Science

Taught by Prof. Egghead staff. The lab is in full swing this session as we replicate some of history’s greatest inventions! How do compasses know which way is North? Why are helicopters able to lift off the ground? And can we really make our own hovercraft from checks lab notes… balloons and CDs? With a huge variety of hands-on take-home experiments, we’ll dive into the science behind what makes these inventions tick. From catapults to rocket ships and everything in between, there’s no shortage of discoveries to be made this session!

In this fun and calming class, kids get to express themselves through hands-on art and craft projects while also developing important social-emotional skills. Each week blends creativity with connection—whether we’re making astronaut slime, designing inspirational art, crafting kaleidoscopes, or creating paper plate yarn weaving. Through guided activities like bubble art, nature scavenger hunts, and pendant-making, kids learn to focus, relax, and collaborate—all while exploring their creativity. Every project is thoughtfully designed to spark joy, encourage self-expression, and help children build confidence, patience, and mindfulness. Perfect for curious minds and creative hearts! Parkour

Taught by Coach Lorenzo, professional traceur (practitioner of Parkour) and teacher. This program will teach children the fundamentals of climbing, crawling, jumping, rolling, running and vaulting over obstacles using the playground, a giant foam block and the environment. Parkour is about overcoming obstacles mentally and physically in our lives. Students will learn some team building exercises, gain confidence and get an amazing workout. Students should bring bottled water to stay hydrated and be ready to jump around.
Piano/Keyboard

Taught by Maestro Coffey, musician and music teacher. This is a group class to introduce students to the joy of playing piano. Maestro has arranged and notated favorite children’s songs in an easy, fun way to play. Students should practice playing the songs often. Multiple studies show that music training and learning to read music is good for the developing brain. Maestro Coffey ensures that students will learn the essentials of music theory with favorite songs. Class will have a recital on the last day of the term. Parents will need to buy a roll–up keyboard (such as this Pogolab available online for ~$35) and headphones with a 3.5 mm connector (such as Maxell 190319 available online for ~$5), which students will bring with them to school on Tuesdays for piano class. Printed music and other materials are supplied. Please leave all chargers and cables at home, as we do not have the capacity to charge keyboards during class. Also, please be sure to tell your child to bring and use their headphones during class. When the teacher plays with a group of students, we unplug headphones, but when the teacher moves to the next group and students practice on their own, it is much better for all when they use their headphones.
Pokemon Card Game

Self-Discipline & Self-Defense

Sensei Ross is a Black Belt in Kenpo Karate with more than 15 years experience studying and teaching the martial arts. Continuing and new students are welcome. Although we all want to make this a safe and peaceful world for our children, reality can sometimes deliver unwelcome surprises. As adults, it is our responsibility to give our children the tools that will help keep them safe in any number of situations and to teach them to carry themselves with a confidence and awareness that will steer them away from danger. In Self–Discipline & Self–Defense, we will learn the fundamentals of defense, such as environmental awareness, blocks, kicks, strikes, stances, foot maneuvers, and the all–important KI–YAH! In addition to providing an excellent workout and instilling children with self–confidence, studying the martial arts stresses the value of being a good citizen, being kind to your peers, respectful to your elders, mindful of nutrition and diligent in your studies. Plus, it’s a lot of fun. Students will be working towards the goal of earning a gi (uniform), then belts.

Learn tennis by exploring 4 areas of focus: Technical (forehand/backhand/serves), Tactical, Athleticism (agility, balance, coordination, speed, strength), and Mental (emotional, confidence). Perfect for beginners. Coach Susan brings all the equipment: a portable net, beginner children’s tennis balls (Red Balls), and rackets. Students should wear sneakers, and shorts or pants.
Ukulele/Guitar

Taught by Mr. Gaku, session guitarist, producer, and seasoned performer. This class is a great introduction to the joy of playing music. The ukulele is a small string instrument which kindergarten students can handle with their small hands. Older students who want to learn to play guitar are also welcome. The instructor will teach how to play simple holiday songs and children’s songs. Students will learn basic music reading skills using color stickers. No books or scores are required. The instructor will provide a folder with music scores, color system/tuning instructions, and stickers. (The folder will have different music scores every semester.) A ukulele or guitar is required for this class. Ukuleles can be found for as little as $40 online or in local stores.
Weaving Wonders

A fun, hands-on adventure where young crafters (grades 1-5) explore the magical world of yarn by learning the basics of knitting, crocheting, and weaving to create colorful, unique projects like yarn bracelets and woven art. Develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, patience, focus, and creative problem-solving while diving into a colorful world of yarn! Watch their confidence grow as they master new techniques in a fun, safe space, perfect for beginners wanting to make cool things to take home! Students will learn to knit (finger knitting, loom knitting), crochet (chain stitch, single crochet), Kumihimo (Japanese braiding) and weave (mini looms, dream catchers).
Wild Child Sports

Taught by Wild Child Gym staff. This class is a great introduction to sports. Children will learn the fundamentals of a variety of sports in an active, fun and inclusive way. From team–building to individual skill development, Wild Child’s coaches will build each child’s self–esteem, coordination, strength and core skill set through active play. Weaving in playful games and a weekly muscle focus, this program will give students the fundamentals to confidently throw, catch, jump, kick, shoot and more. Students are encouraged to bring water and dress comfortably.
Young Engineers

Taught by Young Engineers staff. Young Engineers - Bricks Challenge is a program where students explore real engineering and physics concepts through guided building and structured discovery. Students are not simply “playing with LEGO®,” but actively learning how real machines work and how engineering applies to the world around them. Each class follows a clear learning structure: theory → build → play → upgrade, allowing students to understand concepts, apply them through construction, test them in action, and improve their designs. The curriculum is progressive and cumulative—each lesson introduces new engineering concepts that build on previous learning, and each semester offers new models and more advanced challenges, so returning students continue to grow and are never repeating the same material. Students explore key principles of classical mechanics such as forces, energy, torque, leverage, load distribution, motion, and angular momentum through engaging hands-on projects. Students also develop responsibility and independence by managing their own organized kits and learning to care for shared materials.

Taught by Critter Squad staff. Meet live animals and learn about their world. Some are furry, some are feathered, some have a lot of legs, but they are all coming to visit, and they are safe and friendly. Each class will feature educational games and activities and a visit with a real live animal.
