Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions #

When and where are the classes? #

Afterschool Cornucopia offers 1‐hour classes, after school, on campus at Linwood Howe, El Rincon, and El Marino. Our classes meet from 3:20–4:20pm at Lin Howe and 3:25–4:25pm at El Marino and El Rincon most days. On Wednesdays and other special early dismissal days, our classes meet from 1:50–2:50pm at Lin Howe and 1:55–2:55pm at El Marino and El Rincon. We supervise students during the 10 minutes between school dismissal and the start of our classes.

Is the program seasonal? #

We offer classes throughout the school year. Our program is divided into 3 terms, roughly corresponding to the seasons of fall, winter, and spring. Our fall term typically runs from the 2nd week of school until winter break (usually August–December). Our winter term runs between winter break and spring break (usually January–March). Our spring term runs after spring break through the end of the school year (usually April–June).

Do the classes meet when school has early dismissal? #

Yes. On Wednesdays our classes meet from 1:50–2:50pm at Lin Howe and 1:55–2:55pm at El Marino and El Rincon. On special early dismissal days, such as those scheduled for parent–teacher conferences, most of our classes meet from 1:50–2:50pm at Lin Howe and 1:55–2:55pm at El Marino and El Rincon, just like Wednesdays. We email all parents a reminder with details roughly a week before special early dismissal days.

Do you offer aftercare past 4:25pm (or 2:55pm on Wednesdays)? #

No, other than a couple of exceptions*, all of our classes finish at 4:20pm at Lin Howe and 4:25pm at El Marino and El Rincon every day except Wednesdays, when we finish at 2:50pm at Lin Howe and 2:55pm at El Marino and El Rincon. If you need childcare past 2:55pm on Wednesdays or 4:25pm on other days, we recommend one of the other afterschool care programs offered at your school. If you sign up for both our classes and another aftercare program, your child can attend our classes, then go to their other aftercare program when our classes end. Please check your school’s website for information about available aftercare programs: El MarinoEl RinconLinwood Howe
*Our program at El Marino offers a second set of classes from 3:00–4:00pm on Wednesdays.
*Our Engineering with Legos class is a 90 minute class, ending at 4:55pm (or 3:25pm on Wednesdays)

Do classes fill up? #

Typically, some of our classes fill up, but most don’t.

How do TK and kindergarten students get to the classes? #

When school dismisses, our staff pick up younger students from their teacher and we walk them over to our classes.
